How do you fix a sloppy heel in training free dog obedience?
My dog Benny is a stuborn little Border Terrier. He has a very sloppy and loose off lead heel. Does anyone have tips on fixing it?
When training, connecting the fishing line (heavy enough for your dog not to break) in the dog's collar, with the other end attached to his belt. The dog looks great and I will to believe that he is out of place. If you need to make a correction, do it with his hand in the line of fish, but immediately released. Try to convince your dog that is working outside the lead, but did not get away with bad heel. Use plenty of bait at first, and drop the bait as heeling your dog improves. Another tool training that some people like to use is a stick of training for small businesses. This can be a 2.3 foot wooden dowel. When heeling your dog, use the stick guide him in closer to you if you start to drift. If it begins to build, keep the stick in front of your chest and back guide. If it starts lagging, forward guide on its rump. Please feel directly, use the stick gently to the position he wanted. Remember to keep an upright posture and hold the stick in a way discreet. Use the stick to gently push the dog, do not overlook it or hit. Good luck.
