Dog lovers share a common bond that can make the opening of a conversation very natural, easy and convenient.
I personally have met and made great friends while walking my dogs in the local area. Meetings that otherwise would probably never have happened.
In our societies often highly charged can be very hard to meet people with common interests. It is so often a distrust among us, watch our chat this strange mental states, not look up, do not make contact with the eyes, mind your own business and so on and on. Unfortunately, although common sense is necessary for our own safety, in reality, these beliefs that create barriers and obstacles that connects us with others.
Dogs have this incredible ability to join in common ground. They allow us to quickly assess another by simply observing the interaction they have with their pet. They are loving and affectionate with your dog? Does your dog seems relaxed and happy in your presence? (Or just the opposite!) Are patient and kind? The questions go to the very essence of one's character and normally may take some time to find out about a person.
The qualities and character traits we want in a partner or friend can be observed and witnessed first hand between them and their dog. Dog is open, honest and easy to read books, do not have ulterior motives – which is, is! What you see is what you get, so that unlike human! The dogs will allow us to gain some insights into their own deep, even before they are physically. Of course, once again, some good common sense is required here not only to pre-judge people unfairly, but as a general rule you can trust your instincts as you look at the dog / human relations.
Nothing is foolproof, but I can tell from my own experience and observations, no doubt the dogs give us an advantage in the sometimes painful and the meeting Game awkward greeting.
To add some interest and support for my theory you refer to a newspaper article a friend sent me and cut last year. The article was written by Kate Adamson in the Sunday Herald Sun – May 27, 2007 (heraldsun.com.au), entitled "Love's in the lap dogs." To be honest I suspect that all dogs are very effective icebreaker. Even the types of nervous or aggressive can still give an interesting platform to start a dialogue.
So the moral of the story is, to be out there walking with your dog! No matter what type of dog you have. If nothing more is great exercise and very good for you.
