Pitbulls: not good with other dogs/pets?

I have been wanting a Pit for a long time now, and am getting another dog in a few months and trying to decide on a breed, but I am wondering if pit bulls are good with other pets? First of all, I have a Pomeranian, and I want a cat some time in the future. I won’t get a pit bull if it won’t be happy in my environment, but again, I’m just wondering if Pits are good with other pets. Also, if you’ve owned this dog before, what is your experience with them? Are they easy to train? Thx for your time.

PS- No rude answer please. And don’t say “pits are dangerous, don’t get one!” The dog is only dangerous because the owner MADE it that way!

I’m usually in complete disagreement with Casey when it comes to Pit Bulls, but she is the only one that has provided honest information here.

This is from the UKC standard:
“Because most APBTs exhibit some level of dog aggression and because of its powerful physique, the APBT requires an owner who will carefully socialize and obedience train the dog.”

Some dogs of the breed are completely dog/animal social. Most are not.

The breed was developed for and refined around dog on dog combat. As a result, the breed has genetic tendencies such as dog aggression and high prey drive. These are not faults, they are traits.

Training and socialization are important and absolutely factor into a dogs behavior, they do NOT trump genetics. It’s NOT all how you raise them.

If your next dog is going to be required to be tolerant and compatible with other pets, this is probably not the right breed.
