We all know that dogs are social creatures, and most of them like to spend time with others of their own species. That means if you only have a dog in the house, our current dog should be alone and, of course I would love to have a canine companion. At least that's the excuse they can give us same when we start looking for a second puppy or dog. The real reason could be the guilt we feel because we left our home pet alone so many hours when we go to work or school. Or maybe like the idea of having a house full of happy dogs.
If you already have a dog in the house, there are some important decisions you might want to do before responding to that ad in the newspaper or a trip to your local animal shelter. Once you see that adorable puppy or dog home alone, his heart melt and rightly go out the window. It is best to do your thinking before those big brown eyes have a chance to do its magic.
Unfortunately, in order to answer the following questions you need to get into the mind of your dog on course and make the best guess possible about how you will react to a second dog at home – and not always easy.
Does your current dog really wants a new friend?
This may be the consideration more important. Some dogs do not really want, and do not accept any intruder in his home. Regardless of the breed, some dogs prefer to be the only individual dog in the house.
In this situation, the best will be your first dog simply ignores the intruder and not accepted as a friend. In the worst cases, your pet can now choose to get rid of the intruder with violence. If your dog tends to resolve disagreements with other dogs with their teeth, your new puppy can never have a chance to settle and become part of the family.
So before you bring a second pet home, ask your current dog, if you really want a new friend. Do not assume it is calm and take the dog again after an adjustment period – some of the dogs ever. Fortunately, most dogs will adjust over time and come to enjoy the companionship of the dog again.
Which breed of your dog as the most current?
This is another question is not so easily answered as one might think, but characteristics of the breed are helpful. If you have seen your dog interact with other dogs present, perhaps in a dog park, you already know that race plays more often. If you are unsure, you can simply choose a second dog of the same breed or breed with behaviors similar. Then you know that both know the same games, and enjoy each other's company.
Unfortunately, not have that right, when I took my dog home second, and took nearly six months for the old and the new dog to start enjoying each other.
My first dog is an Australian Shepherd Cross I said, through their interactions with other dogs in the park and in the street, who prefers the company of other sheep-herding breeds. He especially enjoys border collie. I know from personal experience that my living situation and lifestyle is not right for one of these active dogs. If a border collie is not a real job to do, can find incredibly creative ways to make your life miserable.
So it was against my first dog obviously wants and brought home an adorable golden retriever Lovers of local housing. Both dogs have very even temperaments, so there was no open fighting or animosity. But there was no real game or company, either, for many months.
Sheepdogs do not understand how dogs think of birds, and vice versa. The retriever likes to chase tennis balls, the pastor likes to chase retrievers – What the game was always spoiled. Finally, after nearly six months, found a fighting game you both enjoy, and which have become fast friends, but for a time was not sure that would never happen.
My golden retriever explained that a dog of the same race can not be what she prefers. In our rides retrievers ignores others. Your ideal partner would be a small dog – almost any small dog will do. This may be an expression of their maternal instincts who came to the animal shelter shortly after giving birth to a litter of puppies, and was operated at the end of life. Whatever the reason, she is drawn to the small, Yippy, active dogs that live in our neighborhood, and clearly enjoy having a life with her permanently in our house.
The ideal package for terms my two dogs, it would have four dogs – a border collie back to the pastor, and a Jack Russell terrier to the retriever. That, however, will not happen.
So, before you bring your dog home second, make sure you have a long heart to heart talk with your canine friend today. Then you have a better opportunity to choose the ideal companion for him.
